The Purpose
Originally built as a pump station designed to drain a 50,000 acre lake, the structure was re-purposed in the 1930s as Mattamuskeet Lodge after a 5-year construction project by the Civilian Conservation Corp. Closed in 2004 due to structural deterioration, our firm was hired by the NC Department of Natural and Cultural Resources to design repairs to the structure and restore the Lodge as a living history site. Over the past ten years, we have completed a multi-phase structural stabilization of the building. We are currently engaged in designing the stabilization structure for the observation tower and the repairs to the Ludowici terra cotta tile roof.
